Turning movie stars into rock singers is a technical problem with no margin for visible seams — the audience knows exactly what “Wanted Dead or Alive” is supposed to sound like, and they know Tom Cruise isn’t Bon Jovi.
The Rock of Ages soundtrack (Warner Bros., 2012, produced by Adam Anders) was that problem at feature-film scale: A-list actors — Cruise, Zeta-Jones, Baldwin, Brand — performing the arena-rock canon, engineered to stand beside the originals on the same playlist. My work spanned vocal production, engineering, and editing across the album.
The record’s results:
- Grammy-nominated — Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, 55th Awards: the third consecutive year a project carrying my credits earned a nomination.
- #1 on Billboard’s Soundtracks chart and the second-best-selling soundtrack of 2012.
- Gold-certified internationally, with residuals that continue today.

The craft story worth telling: an actor’s vocal session is nothing like a singer’s. Takes come in fragments between shooting days; confidence varies line to line; the performance is assembled as much as captured. The soundtrack’s seamlessness is the credit — if you can’t hear where the editing lives, that was the job. It’s the same discipline I later applied making Gaga and Bennett share a room they were never in, and the same one I teach today: records are performances plus the invisible ten thousand decisions after.
